| | Dear Call Member You've all worked with me as you've grown through the coactive leadership program. I believe our leadership grows through our exploration of ourselves and through our vulnerability and transparency. I have been honored by the trust you have given my staff and I as you grew yourselves. As a Leadership leader, Graduate and member of The Call, I too continue to grow my leadership. And, in the spirit of vulnerability and transparency I want to share with you that, as a child, I was physically, sexually and emotionally abused by a family member. This has led to a lot of problems throughout my adult life, many of which I am still healing. While I did not pass the legacy of violence on to my children, it has been a contributing factor in the failure of my close relationships. The reason I'm sharing this with you is because last year another leadership grad, Beth Shapiro of the Deer tribe, asked for my help on a fundraising project to help break the cycle of domestic violence in the San Francisco area through the non-profit organization Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse (CORA) . Given my personal experience I immediately said yes. As a first time fundraiser last year our goal was to raise $60,000 with a 3-day backpacking trip to Big Sur. Hikers and Leaders raised funds through obtaining sponsorship pledges. What was amazing and gratifying for Beth and I is that Call members donated over $4,000 from all over the world to help us out. We ended up raising over $93,000.00. Thank You! This year we are expanding our efforts. Our goal is to raise $120,000 and raise the bar by bringing in leadership development for the team leaders and the opportunity for healing for the hikers as well, some of whom are survivors of domestic violence. Since I want to continue to grow as a leader, I remember from R1 that great leaders ask for help. So, I'm asking you to do one or more of the following: - Be a Sponsor! Beth Shapiro and I will be "team leaders" and hikers and would feel honored if you sponsored one of us. Our team leader goal is to raise $15,000.00 this year. You can donate online at: CORA Take A Hike
